Erectile Dysfunction Drugs Seized at LAX
Federal agents seized 63 pounds of erectile dysfunction drugs at Los Angeles International Aiport last month from a man attempting to enter the United States. The unidentified man was stopped by agents for the United States Customs and Border Protection after security screeners discovered several heat-sealed pouches of a white powdery substance in his carry-on baggage. The man, who is 40 years old and is a Korean national, claimed that the powder was a Chinese herb, but when federal officials tested the substance, they discovered that it was actually tadalafil, which is the active ingredient in erectile dysfunction drugs such as Cialis. Officials estimate that the seized drugs would have been worth as much as $179,000. While erectile dysfunction drugs are legal with a prescription, the man, who intended to stay in Los Angeles for several days, did not have the required approval to bring the drugs into the country. According to federal agents, the drugs in question may have eventually been pressed into pill form and then sold online through websites that pass themselves off as legitimate pharmacy outlets. No word has been given on what charges the man is facing or when he might be in court.
