Agents Seize Large Marijuana Cargo
Federal agents seized a large cargo of marijuana from two boats off the coast of Santa Catalina Island earlier this month. Federal agents first spotted the two boats on radar on January 12th. Operators on the first boat attempted to evade authorities and a pursuit ensued on the water around the island, eventually ending around 11:45 that night. Four men were found aboard the boat and were promptly arrested. Federal law enforcement agents working with the Unites States Coast Guard found a second, smaller boat nearby that also had four men on it who were also arrested. Once the boats were searched, agents found one ton of marijuana aboard the larger vessel. All eight men arrested were transferred to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement. No information has been released as to the identities of the eight men arrested, or what country they may have come from. Prosectutors for the United States are expected to file drug trafficking charges against the four men found aboard the larger boat.
