Pot Farm Discovered In Palmdale
Local law enforcement agents discovered a small marijuana farm in Palmdale yesterday while performing a probation compliance check. Detectives working with Operation Safe Streets were checking on David Cheatham at his home in Palmdale when Cheatham fled on foot into a nearby open field. Law enforcement agents quickly caught up with Cheatham and arrested him. Cheatham's home happened to be in a more rural area and officers at the scene noticed three shed-like structures on the surrounding property. A search of the property revealed as many as 160 marijuana plants being grown in the main house, one of the sheds and a camper shell, as well as equipment for cultivating marijuana plants. Detectives at the scene also found three other occupants living at the property and two firearms, one of which was a 12-gauge shotgun. Cheatham had been on probation after being convicted for the cultivation of marijuana and had a no-bail arrest warrant against him. He was arrested and booked for the outstanding warrant, as well as illegally cultivating marijuana and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. One of the occupants at Cheatham's home, John Allen, was also arrested after detectives discovered a no-bail arrest warrant for forgery and fraud against him from the state of Texas. Detectives estimated that the plants they seized from Cheatham's property would have been worth at least $10,000.
