Former R&B Singer Sued For Illegal Marijuana Store
The state of California filed paperwork in late October to sue former R&B singer Dreux Pierre Frederic for the illegal operation of a marijuana dispensary of which he is the part owner. Frederic, whose stage name was Lil' Fizz when he sang for the group B2K, has been a partial owner of the Little Amsterdam marijuana dispensary, which opened its doors in 2008. According to paperwork filed in a Los Angeles Superior Court, however, the section of West Hollywood in which Little Amsterdam operates is an area where marijuana dispensaries are strictly prohibited from operating. According to court documents, Frederic and his business partners are not only being asked to close their doors immediately, but are also being ordered to pay fines amounting to more than $1 million. Daily fines of $2,500 have been assessed for every day since the beginning of July, 2010 that Little Amsterdam has been open, totaling $1,192,500. The state of California is also seeking to have Frederic and his business partners pay law enforcement costs and attorneys' fees in the case, which could total $750,000. Frederic and the other owners of Little Amsterdam have not issued a public statement about the lawsuit.
