Hurd Arrested On Drug Charges
Professional football player Sam Hurd was arrested on drug-related charges in Chicago last week. Hurd had played the position of receiver for the Dallas Cowboys before being signed to the Chicago Bears professional football team as a free agent acquisition in July. The 26-year-old football player was arrested after leaving a Chicago-area steak house after making arrangements to buy large quantities of illegal drugs from what turned out to be an undercover law enforcement agent. According to reports, Hurd had been under investigation by authorities since July of this year when he was still living in Dallas and playing for the Cowboys. An unidentified man was stopped by Dallas police after attempting to purchase four kilograms of cocaine. When the man was stopped he told police that the car he was driving, as well as nearly $90,000 in cash in a canvas bag, belonged to Hurd. Hurd was interviewed at the time by police and the car was, indeed registered to him, though police were not able to charge him with anything at the time. Shortly before his arrest in Chicago, Hurd made a deal with an undercover law enforcement official to purchase five to 10 kilograms of cocaine and as much as 1,000 pounds of marijuana per week for sale and distribution throughout the Chicago area. Before leaving the restaurant, Hurd was given a kilogram of cocaine that he agreed to pay for after football practice ended later that evening. No word has been given as to when Hurd would return to court, and the Bears organization had not released a public statement regarding the matter.
