Hopkins Arrested For Buying Large Quantity of Marijuana
Actor Jermaine "Huggy" Hopkins was arrested in Arizona this past week for purchasing a large quantity of marijuana. In what turned out to be a sting operation set up by local law enforcement agents in Maricopa County, Hopkins had traveled from his residence in North Carolina to purchase 200 pounds of marijuana from what a local law enforcement agent working undercover. Just after Hopkins drove away from the meeting in which he purchased the illegal drugs, police pulled him over and arrested him. Upon searching the vehicle, police at the scene also found as much as $100,000. A search of Hopkins' Arizona apartment turned up an additional 100 pounds of marjuana. Hopkins was reportedly involved in the drug deal to pay for Christmas gifts for his family. Hopkins remained in police custody on $35,000 bond and has been charged with two felony counts of possessing, transporting and intending to sell marijuana. If convicted on both counts, the actor is facing up to 5 years in an Arizona state prison. Hopkins is, perhaps, best known for playing Thomas Sams in the acclaimed film "Lean On Me" in 1989.
