Two people have been arrested by local law enforcement officials in Simi Valley after a number of heroin-induced overdose deaths in recent months. Following a three-month investigation, law enforcement agents arrested Oscar Ramirez and Kelly Diaz last week on suspicion of both transporting and selling heroin. Both Ramirez, who is just 20 years old, and Diaz, who is 27, were also placed on immigration holds as they are both suspected of being in the United States illegally. According to investigators, black tar heroin from Mexico has become popular amongst teenagers in several southern California suburbs including Valencia, Redlands, Santa Clarita and Thousand Oaks. Ramirez and Diaz allegedly ran a heroin supply ring in which drug users called a particular phone number and later had the drugs delivered to them. Local police also arrested three San Fernando Valley men in March on suspicion of heroin trafficking and reportedly seized five pounds of heroin along with about $120,000 in cash. In April law enforcement officials in Redlands arrested a number of people who allegedly ran a similar heroin ring operation. The Los Angeles area has had at least seven fatal heroin overdoses in recent months.

Nearly three tons of a key chemical used to make the illegal drugs methamphetamine and ecstasy was seized by federal law enforcement agents at Los Angeles International Airport this past week. According to reports from investigators, the amount of methylamine chloride discovered at the airport would be enough to produce nearly $40 million-worth of illegal drugs. The drugs were bound in 80 plastic bags attached to wooden pallets and were said to have arrived on both April 19th and April 23rd on a flight from China. Red flags came up over the shipment because, while properly labeled as to the contents of the packages, additional paperwork required by the Drug Enforcement Administration could not be found. Methylamine chloride can also be used in the manufacture of pesticides, solvents and other pharmaceutical products. The chemicals were reportedly bound for an undisclosed location in Mexico before federal agents seized them. Investigators have reported a rise in the use of air and even sea transport in moving drugs and the chemicals used to make them lately when drug cartels had previously relied more heavily on ground transportation. This latest shipment to be seized is one of the largest to ever be found at LAX.

Courtney Wagner, the daughter of Robert Wagner and the late actress Natalie Wood, was arrested for drug possession last week. According to reports, local law enforcement agents responded to a call that reported both a woman screaming and gunfire at Wagner's Malibu home. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the 38-year-old former jewelry designer in possession of both cocaine and heroin. Wagner was arrested immediately and taken to a local jail. An unidentified male was also arrested at the scene for the negligent discharge of a firearm. No injuries were reported and Wagner was released from police custody after posting $10,000 bail. No word has been given as to when Wagner is expected to appear in court.

Unlike her famous parents, Wagner never went into the entertainment industry, opting instead to open a high-end jewelry designing business with her childhood friend, Anita Ko. The business, known as Wagner & Ko, opened in 2001 and attracted the attention of several high-profile celebrities such as Cameron Diaz and Gwyneth Paltrow before Wagner and Ko decided to dissolve their partnership in 2006 and shut the business down.

If you have been arrested for the possession of a controlled substance, you need an experienced and aggressive Los Angeles Drug Crime Defense Attorney right away.

Actor Matthew Underwood was arrested by local law enforcement in Florida last week. According to reports, local police entered Underwood's home in Port St. Lucie with a warrant to search for drugs. An unnamed 17-year-old girl was found in the master bedroom. Underwood identified her to police as his girlfriend of the past year. Police at the scene also found both marijuana and drug paraphernalia around the house, which the actor also reportedly admitted belonged to both him and his underaged girlfriend. Both Underwood and his girlfriend were arrested. Underwood was arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession, and the possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as on suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Underwood was released from police custody some time later after posting $2,250 bail while his girlfriend was released into the custody of her grandfather. Underwood claims that local law enforcement agents have been bothering him since he recently applied for a permit to open a hookah lounge. The actor is perhaps best known for his work as Logan Reese on the television show "Zoey 101" between 2005 and 2008. No word has been released as to when Underwood is expected in court.

Three suspected drug smugglers were arrested in a panga boat near the Southern California beach community of Malibu yesterday. According to reports, lifeguards first spotted the boat around 10:30 Tuesday night about 50 feet from the Latigo Beach shore. The Department of Homeland Security was reportedly contacted and a vessel from the Coast Guard briefly chased the boat before finally intercepting it about two miles from the shore. The identities of the three men aboard the boat have not been released, but it is thought that the boat came from Mexico. The boat was towed to Marina del Rey late Tuesday night, though it remains unclear what investigators found aboard the boat to make them think the three men were drug smugglers. According to investigators, panga boats have become popular in recent months for smuggling both drugs and illegal aliens into the United States. More than 12 illegal immigrants were arrested in a panga boat off the coast of El Segundo nearly a month ago.

Another DeBarge band member was arrested for drugs recently. According to reports, Mark DeBarge was arrested for drug possession in a hotel in Hollywood last week. DeBarge was reportedly with an unidentified woman when the woman's parole officer dropped by the hotel room for a routine check. The parole officer reportedly searched the hotel room and found illegal drugs. It remains unclear what type of drugs were found or whether they belonged to the woman or to DeBarge. The musician and his female companion were both arrested and released the following morning. DeBarge is part of the hit Motown family singing group that was successful in the late 1970s and into the mid-1980s. The group was best known for the hit song "Rhythm of the Night," which was released in 1985. Mark DeBarge's brother Eldra, (known as El) was arrested on suspicion of drug possession back in March of this year, though criminal charges were never filed. Unfortunately, several of the DeBarge siblings have had documented drug abuse problems, including one brother who died of AIDS after several years of addiction to heroin.

After the 18 months are up, if the defendent has successfully completed the terms of his or her program, charges are dropped altogether.

Both federal and local law enforcement agents raided two homes that turned out to be laboratories for the production of methamphetamines last week. Authorities found out about the homes after detaining and questioning a suspected courier for a methamphetamine trafficking operation. Twenty-five-year-old Alan Tamayo-Montoya, who is a Mexican national, was stopped by law enforcement agents in the parking lot of a mall in Van Nuys on Wednesday and led police to homes on Allot Avenue in Van Nuys and Ballerina Place in Pomona. According to reports, neither home had residents, though both were stocked with the chemicals often used to refine methamphetamine as well as scales, materials to package the drugs and other related items. Authorities seized roughly 160 pounds of drugs and estimate that the wholesale value of the haul would be roughly $2 million while the street value could be up to $6 million. It reportedly took federal and local law enforcement agents several hours to dismantle the operations, remove hazardous materials and deal with the fumes of acetone, red phosphorus and other chemicals that hung heavy in the air. Tamayo-Montoya is scheduled to be in court in Los Angeles tomorrow for the possession of methamphetamines for sale and may eventually be deported.

Law enforcement agents in both California and Hawaii are investigating a drug trafficking ring involving employees of both Delta Airlines and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). According to reports, airline employees and TSA employees would find a particular checked bag after it had been gone through security screenings and would then fill it with either illegal drugs or cash. Couriers employed in the operation would then pick up the luggage after a flight like any other checked bag. By some accounts, several hundreds of thousands of pounds of methamphetamines have been smuggled between California and Hawaii in this manner over the past two years. Law enforcement agents have arrested five people in connection with the investigation, with a man by the name of John Tai as the ringleader. Tai was arrested in June of 2011. According to court documents, one person obtained methamphetamines from Mexico and supplied it to a distributor in Hawaii. The money from the sale of the drugs would then be returned to California through a Delta employee who admitted using her security badge to bypass TSA security checkpoints at the airport in Hawaii. The money was then hidden by other airline employees inside checked bags of couriers. No word has been given as to when Tai or his accomplices will next appear in court.

Two men involved in a drug ring that stretched across the country have pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges this week. Robert Edward Sargent, Jr., and Kenny Jones, both of Newport News, Virginia, pleaded guilty to multiple drug-related charges in a Virginia court and both are now facing sentences of up to life in prison. According to court documents, Sargent headed a ring of drug traffickers that moved both cocaine and marijuana from California to New York and locations all over the South using several people as couriers and distributors. Jones was reportedly a courier in Sargent's drug network. More than two dozen other people have been arrested and charged with crimes in relation to Sargent's drug organization, of which 10 have pleaded guilty so far and are currently awaiting sentencing. A jury trial is scheduled for the remaining defendants in July. Sargent is scheduled to be sentenced in July, while Jones is scheduled to be sentenced this June.

A Connecticut man was arrested by local law enforcement agents in Seymour, Connecticut on suspicion of driving under the influence of either drugs or alcohol as well as multiple drug violations. Local police in Seymour spotted John Connelly in the late night hours of this past Friday driving his luxury sedan at least 120 miles per hour. When police at the scene stopped him and questioned him, they suspected that the 26-year-old Connelly was driving impaired. Upon searching Connelly's vehicle, officers at the scene found a large quantity of prescription pills in a non-prescription pill container. Connelly did not have a prescription to present to the officers for the pills in his possession. Police at the scene reportedly also found $5,000 in cash in the vehicle. Both the pills and the cash were seized as evidence. Connelly was arrested on suspicion of possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. He was released from police custody on $10,000 bond the following morning and is expected in court in mid-April.

If you are facing drug-related criminal charges, you need an aggressive and knowledgeable Los Angeles Drug Crime Defense Attorney right away. For example, law enforcement officials of any type must have a reason to pull you over in the first place. In many cases, this mean they have seen you driving illegally or dangerously in some way. Sometimes they may see that your vehicle has expired tags or has a broken tail light. Your

Singer El DeBarge was arrested for possession of narcotics with the intent to sell after local law enforcement agents in Los Angeles observed what they though might be a drug deal on Wednesday. DeBarge, whose real name is Eldra Patrick DeBarge, was spotted by police in the Encino section of the San Fernando Valley on Wednesday afternoon around 2 o'clock. DeBarge and the man with him were both searched by police, who found a single small bag of cocaine under a nearby car. DeBarge was taken to a nearby jail then released after posting $30,000 bail. While this is the third drug arrest for the singer since 2001, prosecutors have declined to file charges citing what they say is a lack of evidence. According to reports, the officers who arrested the singer searched him without reason.

A former bikini model was arrested by Australian authorities last week after being accused of running a global drug ring from her Los Angeles apartment. Simone Farrow has modeled for designers such as Ed Hardy in the past and was even voted onto FHM magazine's Sexiest Women Alive list three times. Federal authorities in the United States are aiding Australian authorities in their investigation, including issuing administrative subpoenas. According to federal authorities in the United States, Farrow has not been charged with a crime here in the U.S. since it is still unclear whether or not she had committed any crimes from her Los Angeles apartment, which was raided in 2009. Officials for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) raided the model's apartment in 2009 and claimed to have found evidence that she ran a crystal meth ring. Since then, Farrow's international shipments have been searched. Farrow was eventually arrested in Australia, then released after a friend posted $150,000 bail for her. She then missed her court date and was arrested last week on Australia's Gold Coast before being extradited to Sydney. While working as a model, Farrow had gone by the stage name Simone Starr.

Former professional baseball player Brien Taylor was arrested in North Carolina last week on charges of drug trafficking. In what turned out to be an under cover operation by the Carteret County Sheriff's Department, Taylor was allegedly selling both cocaine and crack. Taylor is being charged with two counts each of trafficking in cocaine by possession, trafficking in cocaine by sell, trafficking in cocaine by delivery, trafficking in cocaine by transport, trafficking in cocaine by manufacture and one felony count of maintaining a vehicle. He has also been charged with one count each of possession of drugs with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine. Taylor was arrested and taken to a Carteret County Jail, where he is being held on $275,000 bond. Taylor was a star baseball player in high school and a standout prospect to play professional baseball in the early 1990s. He signed to a then-record high contract with the New York Yankees that included a $1.55 million signing bonus. Taylor's minor league career was going well until he got into a physical altercation in a trailer park and injured his shoulder. Taylor never played major league baseball.

Professional football player Jerome Simpson pleaded guilty to felony drug charges in a Covington, Kentucky courtroom this past week. Simpson, who plays the position of receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals football team, was arrested last September after law enforcement agents from California tracked a commercially-delivered package holding nearly two pounds of the drug marijuana to his Kentucky residence. After searching Simpson's home, local authorities found nearly one pound more of marijuana. Simpson was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking, which is a felony criminal charge. Simpson pleaded guilty in court this past Thursday as part of a plea bargain that could land him in jail for up to 60 days, in addition to three years of probation, 200 hours of community service and drug treatment. Simpson is scheduled to be sentenced next month. Simpson's legal troubles come at a most inopportune time for him as he is currently a free agent after recently completing a contract with the Bengals. His guilty plea could find him suspended from the league, which would minimize his available playing time. If Simpson is, indeed, sentenced to jail for 60 days, he may be eligible for a work-release program in which he could leave the jail or prison for the purposes of work, though it remains unclear how such an arrangement would work for a professional athlete with extensive travel commitments.

While Simpson's arrest occurred in Kentucky, an experienced Los Angeles Drug Crime Defense Attorney knows that local law enforcement agents here in Los Angeles take drug-related crimes very seriously.

At least four football players for Texas Christian University were arrested on drug-related charges earlier this month after local law enforcement agents in Fort Worth, Texas working with TCU campus police uncovered a widespread drug problem on campus. According to police reports, several football players on the university's team were even allegedly dealing drugs. The four football players arrested have reportedly been removed from the school's football team. According to reports from local law enforcement agents, two football players sold or arranged to obtain drugs for what turned out to be an undercover police officer starting in November of 2011. The undercover officer initially asked junior defensive tackle D.J. Yendrey and sophomore offensive tackle Tyler Horn for marijuana. The undercover officer went back to Yendrey and Horn in mid-January to purchase more marijuana and was told that they were out, but could get more from a friend who turned out to be junior linebacker Tanner Brock. The officer eventually asked Brock if he could purchase hydrocodone or Xanax and Brock answered that while he did not have the drugs, he knew a girl who could supply them. A conversation between Brock and the undercover officer revealed that a surprise drug test had been conducted with the football team. Brock estimated that out of the whole team, only about 20 football players could have passed the drug test. In all, 17 TCU students were arrested.
